I led end-to-end UX for the Field Services App — a mobile and iPad product that gives service technicians a fast, intuitive way to see today’s jobs, prioritize tasks, and add job details on the go. Built for Scorpion’s field-service clients.

02 The challenge

How do you make an app
a technician actually gets?

The goal: give technicians a fast, efficient way to complete tasks and add details for any job that needs doing — on whatever device they have in hand between calls.

Field technicians aren’t sitting at a desk. They’re between jobs, one-handed, often in a hurry. An app they have to think about is an app they won’t open. So the real question wasn’t what features to add — it was: how do we make this intuitive and dead-simple to understand?

Lead every screen with the two things a tech cares about — what’s open and how they’re doing — so the app answers “what’s next?” before they even scroll.

Small team, low budget,
sharp research.

No budget for a full user study — so I worked directly with stakeholders to pin down the information technicians actually need, and ran a competitive analysis of how task-completion apps help people get things done.

06 Reflection & role

What I owned,
what I learned.

I led UX end to end for both mobile and iPad — clarifying business goals with the product manager and director of design, building flows and wireframes, UI and interaction design, prototyping, presenting to stakeholders, and refining and exporting designs for development while working closely with engineers on edits.

Constraints sharpen the work. No research budget meant leaning on stakeholders and competitive analysis — and being ruthless about what mattered. A small scope made every decision count.

Design for the moment of use. A technician between jobs doesn’t read — they glance. Leading with open tasks and close rate, and putting “add” under the thumb, is what made the app feel intuitive.
